Job Description

Sigora Solar’s Department of Design + Engineering is now hiring a full-time employee as their new Residential PV Designer. The mission of the Department of Design + Engineering is to provide every one of our customers with the most code-compliant and top performing solar system possible while maintaining economic responsibility via thoughtful design and proper equipment selection.

Working under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Design + Engineering, the Residential PV Designer will be an integral part of Sigora’s growth and success. This person must understand engineering and design concepts and have a strong aptitude for quality and efficiency. Depending on what suits the applicant, this position may be based out of any of our office locations including Waynesboro, Charlottesville or Richmond, Virginia as well as our newest location in Raleigh, North Carolina. Initial training will take place in Waynesboro, Virginia.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Draft One Line diagrams, structural diagrams and site plans using AutoCAD and Google SketchUp.

  • Research, document and comply with local and national electrical code requirements per individual Authorities Having Jurisdiction.

  • Work closely with the Design + Engineering Coordinator to obtain roof structure certification letters and/or any other PE sealed plans required.

  • Make revisions to drawings as a result of client or AHJ request.

  • Perform various tasks to assist with commercial projects as needed.

  • Populate bill of materials for each residential project using Fishbowl.

  • Assist Sales Team and Project Managers with the response to RFPs, RFIs, bids, and other project proposal documents as needed.

  • Monitor and track progress on all projects. Communicate with team members and other departments/entities regarding project status.

  • Other duties or special projects as assigned.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, an earth sciences discipline (biology, chemistry, geology, natural resources, etc.), related scientific degree, or design.

  • Demonstrated high-level proficiency in computer aided design applications including AutoCAD and SketchUp. Experience with Google Earth and ArcGIS is preferred.

  • Advanced computer skills; high level of proficiency working in Excel spreadsheets and data management systems.

  • Creativity is Key. We need someone that has an eye for design and can think outside of the box.

  • Having an open mind is also an absolute must. With the rate of evolution in the solar industry, our methods are constantly progressing to stay ahead of the curve and we need someone that is hungry for a dynamic work environment.

  • Understanding of the National Electric Code, in particular Article 690, is required. It is necessary to carry out job responsibilities.

  • A strong commitment toward organization and quality – have the ability to produce high quality, error free deliverables, and anticipate and mitigate problems and conflicts as or before they arise.

  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders. The ability to present technical topics to a non-technical audience and stakeholders is beneficial.

  • Proven technical and problem-solving skills including attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness.

  • Basic knowledge of residential construction techniques and terminology preferred.

  • Effectiveness in building working relationships and working in multi-disciplined project teams, including the ability to influence outcomes.

  • Integrity and ability to lead by example.

  • Self-initiative, ability to work independently and productively, willingness to do what it takes to be successful.

  • Acceptable driving record with a valid driver’s license.

  • Willing to work on a team of driven, sustainability-minded people with a common purpose to make the future of this world a cleaner, better place to live for all.
